Be prepared to be beamed up to another world with space themed cocktails and mocktails like the Polaris, Wormhole, Saturn and Astro Zombie at this planetary tiki bar in San Diego. As soon as you walk inside, the rock walls, spaceship seating, and starlight ceiling transport you out of this world. Some say it feels like you are entering the famous “Mos Eisley Cantina” from the Star Wars series. Fortuntaely, this bar has real-life humans serving delicious creative concoctions with a side of “Earth Food” to satisfy your planetary sustenance.
The spaceship themed cocktails are served in various worldly designed glasses with adornments in the shape of the drink theme. The Star Rider features a cut piece of Star Fruit, naturally in the shape of a star. And the Saturn cocktail comes with its own rind shaped Saturn planet on the top. The drinks’ potency level is marked by a lightspeed monitor on the top of each drink description starting from low to high: CRUSHING SPEED, LIGHT SPEED, WARP SPEED, and LUDICROUS SPEED. If you arrive with a Starfleet of friends, do not miss the Time Capsule Punch bowl featuring (if you do, be prepared for the bar erupting in sounds of a crashing thunderstorm where the lights flash and fog machines going off).
The bar also has a small but might menu of vegetarian snacks and sharing plates – highlights include the Potatoes 001 and Tofu 003. And don’t miss out on trying one of the rotating flavors of soft serve that are a always delicious way to top off your visit.
To round out the whole atmosphere, electronic space-sounding music is played in the background, making you truly feel like you’re enjoying a drink somewhere far far away from Earth. This galactic experience is housed inside a very normal looking Mission Style storefront in San Diego’s South Park Neighborhood. There are no visible signs to guide you here from the outside, but there is usually a host waiting for you outside to welcome you to Planet Mothership.
