Drive-thru customer refuses to ‘pay it forward’ by paying for the order of the customer behind them, gets called selfish as a respond: ‘I smiled and drove off with my free coffee’ – FAIL Blog

Nobody is quite sure when this drive-thru ‘pay it forward’ trend has become popular, but by now, we are no strangers to it. If you are, well, here is a quick explanation.

It all starts with one person who wants to do something small to make a stranger happy. They decide to do that by going to a drive-thru and asking the barista to charge them for the order of the car behind them, so they get their order for free. A small gesture, that usually doesn’t cost that much, to make someone else a little bit happier.

However, this caused a trend of some sort, in which the next person in line learns that their order has been paid, so they keep that ‘good deed’ going by also paying for the person behind them, which causes what we like to call, a ‘pay it forward’ event. This event can last for countless customers in the drive-thru, who feel inspired by the first person and pay for the order of the customer behind them. That is until there is one brave customer who puts a stop to it and simply accepts their free food.

In our case, that brave person is the one who wrote this story, and confessing to not ‘paying it forward’ has caused a big debate about the whole trend. Scroll down to read it, and after that, check out this story of a mother who left her children and moved out.
